Image Stabilisation doesn’t like Tripods

I took some shots using a long exposure this morning using live view to get focus on my wee tripod but they came out blurred Now in the past I have had images sharp with the same setup, so I had a little play just now with a target and the camera set on a tripod with my mistress 24-105 L IS USM

and as I already new doh turn IS of when on a tripod.

The image taken with IS on was blurred compared to the shot with it off.

When using the 10sec timer and Liveview I could see the image wandering around on the lcd screen, when IS was on and during the countdown period after depressing the shutter, I never had this on my Tamron as it has no IS.

 

Some lenses can autodetect when mounted but probably easier to turn off and save the battery.
